The science is now clear what will happen to the world your grandchildren will inherit if we do not take the transformative actions needed during this decade. What is not clear is how humanity will respond.
The following three scenarios of the probable future to mid-century offer some hope. They are written by futurists and whole systems thinkers who have devoted much of their lives to the challenges before us. The first two are recent books that are being provided to you in this email at no cost. The third is an article.
1. Choosing Earth: Humanity’s Great Transition to a Mature Planetary Civilization By Duane Elgin
Choosing Earth is the best book I have read in the past fifteen years on the global warming/climate crisis. Duane lays out three possible, and equally plausible, futures: Collapse, Authoritarianism, a Great Transition. He lays out the stages of pain, suffering and (hopefully) transition to a positive future.
If this book speaks to you, please download the eBook for free here – and, if you are inspired, join one of the Choosing Earth discussion groups.
2. In Our Hands: A Handbook for Intergenerational Actions to Solve the Climate Crisis By Wilford Welch
In the attached book, I outline two futures over the next thirty years:
• The Probable Future we face if we allow the politics of fear and nationalism, as well as denial of global warming and climate change, to propel the world to economic, social and political collapse.
• The Possible Future that our grandchildren will enjoy if we rise to meet the challenges before us. Specific solutions and actions are presented along with 180 live links to other books, documentaries and research covering such interrelated issues as the science of global warming, climate refugees, the plastics crisis, and the possible evolution of our business and economic systems.

3. “Pandemics: Lessons Looking Back from 2050” By Fritjof Capra and Hazel Henderson
This hopeful look at the next thirty years by an eminent physicist and systems thinker, and an enlightened futurist and science-policy analyst, make the case for the Covid-19 pandemic being the wake-up call the world has needed to move humanity to a “new normal” based on collective responsibility for our planet and each other. Be well,
